PUC Pioneers End Nearly 9-Year Drought, Secure Impressive Victory Against Rivals, La Sierra Eagles

The PUC Pioneers made history on the volleyball court by ending an almost nine-year losing streak against their rivals, the La Sierra University Eagles. In a highly anticipated showdown, the Pioneers displayed exceptional skill and determination, emerging victorious in three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-21, and 25-18.

A Long-Awaited Victory

For PUC, the win was not just another game; it marked the first time they had defeated La Sierra in Women's Volleyball since October 4th, 2014. The team had been yearning for this moment, and they delivered in style, ending the nearly nine-year drought with an impressive performance.

Captain Izzy Bandy's Dominance

Leading the charge for PUC was the indomitable Captain #10 Izzy Bandy, who put on a remarkable display of talent and leadership. Bandy collected a game-high 12 kills with an impressive .550 hitting percentage, committing only 1 hitting error. Her contribution was not limited to kills, as she also managed an astounding 5 service aces, all of which came in the first set, giving PUC a much-needed boost after a slow start.

Standout Performances Abound

PUC's victory was a team effort, with several players delivering standout performances:

  • Captain #7 Claire Harlan-Maghan continued to shine on both ends of the court. She led the team with 13 digs and contributed 7 kills and a block to the offensive effort.

  • Freshman #14 Jaylee Mills stood out with 6 kills on an impressive .417 hitting percentage, committing only 1 error. Mills also recorded 3 service aces and an assist, displaying her versatility.

  • Freshman Setter #1 Chelsea Tamayo facilitated the offense brilliantly with 16 assists, committing no errors, and added 3 service aces to her impressive performance.

  • Freshman #3 Hannah Fritz showcased her defensive prowess despite her outside hitter role. Fritz recorded 8 digs and contributed 3 kills on a respectable .333 hitting percentage. She also picked up an assist dig and a service ace, underscoring her versatility.

  • On her birthday, #11 Ryin Le celebrated by collecting 11 assists and 2 digs, contributing to PUC's well-rounded team effort.

A Winning Streak Continues

With this remarkable victory, the Women's Volleyball team extended their winning streak to three games and further solidified their conference record at 2-0. Their overall record now stands at an impressive 4-2, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
