Cross Country Runs San Francisco

On October 7, San Francisco State Invitational was on the way! With the women starting the invitational by running a 6k and the men running an 8k. Participating schools included SF State, San Jose State, Dominican, William Jessup, Pacific Union College, Holy Names, Fresno Pacific, East Bay, and more!

The weather was ideal for racing with cool, and cloudy conditions at Old Speedways Meadow Park in San Francisco. This allowed runners the opportunity to achieve personal bests and it gave the PUC Cross-Country Team a confidence boost.

At 3:30 pm the Pioneers Women's Cross-Country Team began their second Cross Country race! The Lady Pioneers started and finished the race strong. Hope Furukawa once again was the first Pioneer to come across the finish line with a time of (32:43.6). Followed by unattached runners Anzarath Chavez-Duron (33:30.8) and Anna Ramos (34:19.2). Newcomers, Rebecca Garrido (40:42.5) and Penelope Diaz (41:36.8) both achieved personal bests.

The Men's Team followed at 4:30 pm and were hungry to take on 100 other runners. The Men's Team set the tone early by holding a 4:30 pace to start the race. At the conclusion of the race Team Captain Josue Hilario was the first Pioneer to cross the finish line at a time of (29:42.9). Returners Matthew Ocegueda (30:09.3), Pablo Garrido (31:14.8), Tyler Wilensky (34:02.7), Eli Mecinas Cruz (34:27.7) and Joonsuh Huh (34:55.5) all finished with personal bests.

Overall, the Pioneers enjoyed the experience of competing at the NCAA level and for most, it was an experience that they'll remember for a lifetime!
