Freshman Justin Roosma (FR/Walla Walla, WA) returns from NAIA Nationals for Cross Country with All-American Status and 16th Place Finish Overall!
Pacific Union College's Cross Country Runner, Justin Roosma, earned NAIA All-American Status with his 16th place finish at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships on Friday, November 22nd.
Justin's previous race is the event that qualified him for the NAIA Nationals Race. Justin was the first to cross the finish line on November 1st for the California Pacific Conference Individual Title.
NAIA Nationals was held in Ft. Vancouver, Washington. Ft. Vancouver provided a cool crisp air with a bright sun forecast on race day. With freshly trimmed and well-groomed grass, the course looked promising for faster racing times. The course showed to be very rigorous with a series of gradual climbs and tight turns, producing an overall slower than expected race times. The two kilometer course wrapped around itself four times, which provided a great opportunity for spectators to watch the runners progress through the banner-lined trail.
335 runners funneled themselves behind the starting line at 10:30 am, representing 37 different schools and 81 individual qualifiers. At the gun, the runners charged down the field which narrowed within the first 400m. Justin was in the mix of the Top 40 runners for mile one with a hasty pace of 4:42. As space began to accumulate between individuals, Justin was seen inching his way into a his final position of 16th place. With a finishing time of 25:15.4, Justin acquired All-American Status. All-American Status is awarded to the Top 30 individual runners.
Top Male Individual Finisher was Mark Shaw (SR) from Oklahoma City with a time of 24:39. Team Title was awarded to Oklahoma City. Embry-Riddle (AZ), a California Pacific Conference Team finished 4th overall team.
Top Female Individual Finisher was Hanna Stoffel (JR) of Huntington University with a time of 17:18 for the 5K distance. Team Title was awarded to Madonna Crusaders of Michigan.
Justin completes his first Cross Country Season at Pacific Union College with the following honors:
