ANGWIN, CAILF- The Pioneers hosted the Keelhaulers for the first game of conference at home Thursday night filled with high emotion and tension. The gym was full to capacity with people standing eager to see the next possession. After being down by eight early points within the first six minuets of the game the Pioneers started to cut the lead with each possession. The stifling defense helped generate a run to their biggest lead of 16 points.
The poise of the Keelhaulers kept them in the game playing a much better second half. Mental mistakes cost the Pioneers forcing the game into overtime. In the overtime period the teams were trading baskets with each team playing very physical defensively. Shot selection and time management hurt the Pioneers, which let the Keelhaulers steal a victory (87-90).
ATHERTON, Calif-The Pioneers went into the Haynes-Prim Pavilion to put their 2-0 record in Cal Pac play to the test against the Menlo College Oaks. The Pioneers held an early lead in the first half before the Oaks were able to overtake the lead into the break. Out of the break, the Pioneers had an offensive outburst in the second half pulled away from the Oaks for the win. The Pioneers improve to (8-12) overall and (3-0) in conference, with the loss the Menlo Oaks drop to (2-17) overall and 1-2) in Cal Pac play.
Riverside, Calif- The Pioneers were after a thrilling win over UC Merced was looking to repeat that performance against the Eagles of La Sierra. It was a game of runs, the Pioneers took an early eight-point lead into the first half, but the Eagles did not break staying within striking distance. In the second half the Eagles came soaring back and took a ten-point lead. The Pioneers however were composed and with stifling defense, La Sierra missed opportunities the lead was slowly chipped away. It came down to the last possession, where Greg Brown hits his eighth three-pointer with 1.3 seconds left in the game silencing the Eagles players and staff. The Eagles were not able to get a good shot opportunity in the final second, with the Pioneers stealing the win 68-67.
