[Volleyball] Women's Volleyball Signs Top Recruit

Brittany Brown, head women's volleyball coach and the Pioneers Athletic Department are happy to announce the signing of Sarah Cusick to the 2012-13 recruiting class. Cusick is a 5'10 outside hitter out of Will C. Wood High School in Vacaville, CA. Sarah was a multi-sport athlete (basketball and soccer) in high school, but will focus her attention on volleyball as she prepares to begin her collegiate degree.

The Pioneers men's basketball coach, Kirt Brower, is happy to announce the signing of Tevin Welcome to the 2012-13 recruiting class. Tevin, the 6'9 junior college transfer, will arrive at PUC this next fall from Ocklawaha, FL. Welcome attended Lake Weir High School and played an instrumental role in their run to the state championship tournament; the school's first trip after a 10-year absence.

Three Pioneers Athletics student-athletes have been named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Carla Bartlett was the lone representative from the women's basketball program. Joining Bartlett are two seniors from the men's basketball program, Michael Giang and Josh Jewett.

The Pioneers Athletic Department is proud to announce that two of their student-athletes have been named to the 2012 Cal Pac Conference All-Conference Team. On Wednesday, the Cal Pac Conference announced the postseason awards as voted by the coaches on their respective sides. Lara Canders was named to the "First Team" on the women's side and her fellow senior teammates were named to the Honorable Mention list for receiving votes. Josh Jewett also made the "First Team" list on the men's side. Teammate Marcus Carter was named to the Honorable Mention list for receiving votes.

Rocklin, CA-- The sixth seeded Pioneers headed into the first round of the Cal Pac Conference Tournament with great optimism. They were matched up against the number three seed, William Jessup University, who they had previously defeated back on January 21. Unfortunately, the Pioneers fell to William Jessup, 73-68. In his final game as a Pioneer, senior forward Josh Jewett had one of the best games of his career with 25 points; he led all scorers for the game.

The Pioneers women's basketball season came to an end last night, when the Pioneers dropped the quarterfinal, opening game of the Cal Pac Conference Tournament to Holy Names University, 64-89. The Pioneers finish the season with an overall record of 4-17, but remained winless through the Cal Pac Conference schedule.

The Pioneers finished the Cal Pac season with a record of 2-10, after the team lost their final regular season Cal Pac game at Simpson University, 47-70. The Pioneers enter the tournament as the sixth seed and will travel to William Jessup University for another match-up with the Warriors. It will be the second meeting between the two teams in less than a week. The Pioneers fell to the Warriors, 68-56, last Thursday night in Rocklin, CA. The teams split the regular season series as the Pioneers defended their home court with a 53-45 win over William Jessup back on January 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.

After dropping their final game of the regular season, a 45-71 loss at Simpson University, the Pioneers women's basketball team will travel to Holy Names for the first round of the Cal Pac Conference Tournament. The Pioneers dropped both meetings between the two teams during the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm.

The Pioneers women's basketball team stepped away from Cal Pac play, on Saturday night, travelling to UC Santa Cruz to face-off against the Banana Slugs. The Pioneers were unable to keep pace, falling 73-42. The team will resume Cal Pac play on Thursday evening.

Senior Josh Jewett missed his fourth consecutive game with a mild concussion. Leading the way for the Pioneers was Marcus Carter with 13 points.

In what looked like a carbon copy of Thursday's loss to Holy Names, the Pioneers women's basketball team was unable to keep pace in the second half, eventually falling to Menlo College, 55-71. It was the Pioneers senior night, in which they honored Carla Bartlett, Lara Canders, and JoAnne Mauries, who played in their final home game. Their losing streak extends to 10 games, with three games remaining to put an end to that streak.

OAKLAND, CA-The Pioneers travelled to Oakland, CA, looking for a win against a Holy Names team that was sliding; they had lost three straight. Unfortunately, the Pioneers fell to Holy Names 62-47. This loss dropped the Pioneers to last place in the Cal-Pac standings. Senior forward and leading scorer Josh Jewett missed his third consecutive game with a mild concussion. The team is hopeful that he can play in the next game, which is senior night. Leading the way for the Pioneers in scoring was forward Marcus Carter with 16 points and 5 rebounds.

The Pioneers dropped their ninth straight contest, in a 107-69 loss at Holy Names University. The women's basketball team travelled to Oakland in search of their first conference wins. The Pioneers have remained competitive and fought hard, but have just been unable to get in the win column. Nevertheless, the small roster, filled with tough and gritty players, will push forward into their next Cal Pac match-up on Saturday night.

ANGWIN, CA - Coming off a tough win against William Jessup, the Pioneers were looking to secure their second consecutive conference win against Simpson University to improve their standings in the jam packed Cal-Pac Conference. Unfortunately, the Pioneers fell 66-45. For the second week in a row, the Pioneers opponent has secure their first conference win at the Covered Wagon. The Pioneers were without leading scorer and team captain Josh Jewett, who suffered a mild concussion towards the end of the William Jessup game on Saturday night; his status is day-to-day. Leading the way for the Pioneers was junior forward Marcus Carter who finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Marymount College and Soka University will join the California Pacific Conference for the 2012-13 season, Commissioner Don Ott announced today. The move expands the Cal Pac into two new geographic regions and brings the number of members to nine for the next academic year.
