LANCASTER, Calif. -It was Pioneer versus Pioneer affair as PUC soccer travelled south to face conference opponent University of Antelope Valley. The visiting Pioneers fell to the hosts 0-8.
PUC had an early chance as a shot from outside the box was tipped over by the home goalie, denying PUC a spectacular goal. PUC saw another chance early in the first, as a rebound from a corner kick bounced dangerously around the box, before being cleared by the UAV defense. However, UAV scored midway through the half, taking advantage of confusion in the PUC defense.
UAV were able to double their lead, as the home team tucked away a chance in front of PUC's goal. Despite early chances for PUC, the travelling Pioneers were unable to establish possession, allowing UAV to threaten keeper Darian Robert's net. As a result, the UAV Pioneers were able to develop an unassailable lead, jumping ahead to 6-0 at the break
The second half saw a continuation of UAV's dominance, as PUC struggled to gain control of the match. The home side was able to posses the ball, producing attacking play while also stifling PUC's attempts to get forward. PUC were persistent, displaying effort despite the score. However, by the end of the half UAV added two more goals, taking the 8-0 win.
The PUC Pioneers will resume play at Providence Christian College on September 30, at 8:00 pm.
