ANGWIN, Calif.- The men's soccer team hit the field early Friday morning for their first Cal Pac game of the season in a face-off against the visiting Embry-Riddle Eagles. Unfortunately for the Pioneers, the odds were not in their favor as they would prove unable to find the back of the net, suffering an 0-7 loss. The Pioneers fall to 0-3 overall and 0-1 Cal Pac.
The Eagles found their first of many goals for the night one minute and 30 seconds in to the game, with a goal made by Jacob Baker and an assist from Lucas Vasconcelos. The Pioneers came out strong in the first half preventing the Eagles from many scoring opportunities.
Going into the second half of play the Pioneers were only down by two. It was a concerted effort as the Pioneers battled every second of play to stop the Eagles. Pressure and momentum led the remaining minutes of play, but the Pioneers were unable to score. In the last 45 minutes of play the Eagles scored five more goals with shots made by: Sergio Gonzalez, Nicholas Goldstein, Joel Paget, Simon Jensen, Daniel Nunez, and a second goal from Jacob Baker. By the final blow of the whistle the Pioneers were down seven, allowing the Eagles their third victory of their season.
The Pioneers look forward to their second conference game and first win of the season, Sunday morning at 11:00 am against Benedictine University at Mesa.
