MERCED, Calif.- With only two games remaining in the regular season, the Pioneers found success as they headed down to Merced on Thursday evening. After taking an early lead in the game, the Pioneers were able to walk away with a 12-point victory, 80-68.
In first few minutes of the game the score remained close, with both teams fighting for control of the game. Fueled by two three-pointers from Damon Jones (SR/Oakland, CA), the Pioneers were able to stretch their lead to eight points going into halftime.
Returning from the half, UC Merced went on a seven point run. The Pioneers quickly fought back stretching their lead to as much as 18 points in the second half. As the time on the clock dwindled down, UC Merced gave the Pioneers a run for their money, decreasing their lead by 10 points. By the end of the half, the Pioneers managed to successfully secure their 15th win of their season as they prepare for playoffs.
Cal Pac player of the week, LeRoy Anderson (SR/Oakland, CA) led the Pioneers with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Leading the Bobcats was reserve point guard, Joshua Kimble, who sunk six out of eight three-pointers finishing the night with 18 points and two assists
