PRESCOTT, Ariz.- After a heartbreaking 20-point loss against Benedictine University at Mesa the Pioneers came back motivated for their win against Embry- Riddle. The Pioneers would find themselves with the upper hand 80-58, bringing their Cal Pac record to 6-3.
The Pioneers opened the game with the first point in the paint made by Kwuan Guerrero, which was immediately matched by the Eagles. The Eagles took the lead early, however, the Pioneers were quickly able to take the lead.
Half-way through the first section of play with the score tied at 11, Jayson Marquez (JR/Harlem, NY) sunk two free throws providing the Pioneers the umph they needed to take control of the game. Chemistry flowed between the players as they took at 21-point lead going into the half, 43-22. During the second half the Pioneers were able to keep their lead and by the final buzzer the scoreboard read 88-58.
Ben Jazuk (JR/Vallejo, CA) led the Pioneers with 18 points and two assists. Greg Brown (SR/San Pedro, CA) added 16 with two assists and two steals. The Pioneers shot 49% from the three-point line, 55% from field goal range, and 50% from the free throw-line.
Joseph Jewell led the Eagles with 14 points, one block and one steal.
The Pioneers head home for back-to-back conference games February 4th and 5th against University of Antelope Valley and La Sierra University.
