MESA, Ariz. – The PUC Men's Basketball team traveled to Arizona play the Benedictine University at Mesa RedHawks. The Pioneers struggled to set stops defensively in the first half that led to an early deficit that they were unable to overcome. They fell in shocking fashion to BenU by a score of 88-68.
The Pioneers allowed the RedHawks offense to get going early in the first half and fell down early 17-7. The PUC deficit grew to 21 at the end of the first half. Though PUC grabbed 11 offensive rebounds, they allowed the home team to shoot 60% from the field in the first half.
The overall struggles continued for the Pioneers in the second half. They saw their deficit grow to as much as 26 with 7:44 left to play. Despite outscoring the RedHawks in the second half, the Pioneers were unable to tighten the gap enough to make the game interesting as they suffered just their third conference loss this season.
LeRoy Anderson (SR/Oakland, CA) led the Pioneers with 14 points, 6 rebounds and three blocks. Kwuan Geurrero continued his exceptional play with 11 points on a perfect 5-5 from the field. Rae Hubbard (JR/Fairfield, CA) also added 10 points in the loss.
The Pioneers will head to Prescott, Arizona Saturday night to take on Embry-Riddle before traveling back to California on Sunday.
